I'm a journalist, creative writer and blogger. I write for Chapel Hill's town newspaper, THE WEEKLY, and serve as the Arts & Entertainment Editor for Blue & White features magazine. I am also the curriculum developer for Everyday Ambassador, a movement for critical thinking and reflective action on individual public service and global citizenship in a digital age. From 2011-2012, I worked as an editorial intern for Sleepy Hollow Books children's independent publishing company. My work has appeared in The Daily Tar Heel, Carolina Creates Writers and The Collegiate Scholar.
My lifelong goal as a writer is to encourage people to not only accept but also embrace each other's differences. I have an ever-continuous desire to write stories about inspiring characters, stories about true life, stories that may help others to stay optimistic about the future. Inspiration is only half of the process; if the stories of my life and others can change the way people view each other and the world, then I'm happy.
I am an active NaNoer and macaroni-and-cheese addict. I'm very bubbly and laugh a little too much. I'm obsessed with Boston, turtles, Harry Potter and superheroes. I have this fantasy-dream of seeing Angels & Airwaves in concert someday -- front row seats, of course. Books, hot chocolate and a cozy blanket are all I need on a rainy day. Also, Chloe Sullivan is my idol.
I am very passionate about disabilities awareness. In many ways, a disability can be seen as a limitation. But it's only a limitation if that's how you perceive it to be. And really, we are just like you. We are simply people with certain health circumstances who must find alternative ways to live. It can be challenging, but it can also feel empowering once you realize that you can do anything you set your mind to.
Living with a tracheostomy tube since birth has given me the chance to learn many life lessons at an early age. Most importantly, what matters most is how I view myself, and how judgment of character should precede over judgment of physicality. Or rather,

I started blogging in January 2010 and have loved the community and feedback that it provides. I write about everything, from food and fashion to writing tips to photography to movies and beyond. Whatever suits my fancy is whatever I talk about. Come join me on my adventures.
I self-published my first novel, Sophie: Part One, on Amazon!
I wrote Sophie as part of National Novel Writing Month in November 2008. When the clock struck 12:00am on December 1, I had achieved my goal of 50,000 words and then some. I have currently restricted availability to the book, as Part One and Part Two are both currently being rewritten and revised.
